Men's Upcycled Hoodie with Hand Embroidered Shipibo Patch
We are excited to introduce an intricate Shipibo textile patch applied to men's upcycled hoodie. (Clothing has been washed) Banana Republic Hoodie with zipper closure and two 2 zipper hand pockets. Size Large, 100% Cotton. Hoodie is olive green in color. Patch applied to back of hoodie.
Machine wash cold, do not place in dryer. Air dry.
The Shipibo are well-known artisans of textiles, seed jewelry, and other pieces. Their art depicts the cosmology and life of the Amazon Basin extending north and south from Pucallpa, Peru. Each Shipibo piece is one-of-a-kind.
The intricate textile designs reflect Shipibo visionary cosmology, external manifestations of sacred patterned energies. Shipibo shamans employ these energy patterns to reorder the bodies of persons who are ill. They represent the Shipibo natural and spiritual world, and the spirits which inhabit this jungle world. They are considered to provide psychic shielding from evil.
Some say the images and patterns represent the healing ceremonial songs associated with the plant-based spiritual life of the jungle. Animals of the jungle appear in some textiles, including serpents and birds. Plants are also featured in some pieces.
The material is dyed and painted with treebark and plant pastes.
The designs are hand-stitched, often collaborative efforts amongst the women of an extended family.
RockBelly is partnered directly with a Shipibo extended family.
